This is an old revision of the document!
How to contribute?
Narrating
If you only have the need to create, it's a small thing to get started(well, almost)! You don't need to ask for the agreement of the great “sages conclave” to join in the UM1 or in the Mediateki. For more information, see the project link:operating 1).
Among the recurring tasks, you'll find:
- Correct typos and misspells as often as possible;
- Organise, re-organise, cut and re-write again and again on the various wiki;
- Create the wanted pages (on the UM1 but also on the others wik). Don't hesitate, when creating an article, to add links toward non-existing pages. Yes, it's adding in the “wanted pages”, but it means we know what has to be done!
Translating
If you know more than one language, help us sharing the project with more people. The project is mostly handled by a French team, and most of the work is done in French. But being able to share what we're doing with “everyone” and give the opportunity to everyone to join in, in whatever language, is still important.
There are the game files to translate, but also the articles on the wiki(s), and to check if the update are done, that the links between articles are correct…
Coding
There's a lot to do on the coding part. The old informatique page lists the bigger tasks.
One of the biggest challenge is to make the creation tools simpler to use, on all platforms, so that everone can contribute to the world creation without having to compile, without hard knowledge on computer science. Examples of tools to be improve/debug:
- Tool for map creation, graphical data modification, etc: Object Viewer ;
- Tool for the Datasheets creation: Georges Editor;
- Tool for world creation: World editor;
Management of Ryzom Core data
The priority still is given to ergonomy, accessibility, and efficiency, while always using open formats. It is valid as much for the tools related to the MMORPG as to the ones related to the web site. The applied philosophy is the one from Unix, and especially the part “Do one thing, and do it well.”
Drawing
This section will need to be divided into several pages, depending on the required knowledges: 3d, illustations, web graphism, etc… It's not usefug as long as only a few things are asked for.
Illustration
- We're looking for illustrations that can be used in the magazin, if possible a cc-by licence, but… as long as we get the author agreement, they can even be under ©. These illustrations will be used to brighten up the page layout and give a vision of the Khanat (among other things…).
- We're looking for illustrations under cc-by for the wikhan and UM1. Even if it is possible to use images with another type of licence, both wiki are using this one and it may create confusion (and it could have the illustration licence not to be followed). So, take screenshots in game or share your own drawings, but avoid the images on which you want to keep control.
The ones who are interested can have a look on the page that gives explanation on how to create concepts arts.
Webdesign
- Anything that could improve the site will be received gratefully
3d
- On long-term: adding elements accordingly to the additions from the UM1 (races, dwellings…)
- On a not-so-long-term: playing with the textures of the elements we already have, to give the universe another look.
- Working on the animations of the 3d models which have problems in their sources.
For now, we're writing down the explanations on how to organise and devise the files:
- organising the graphic data;
